    In many of the US States, fire season is in full force. The 2011 Avalanche Fire in Yosemite National Park was caused by lightening and was fortunately contained to just under 1100 acres. As we drove to Glacier Point we saw the evidence of the damage caused by this fire....minimal compared to many, but nonetheless, a subtle reminder as we enter this season to be aware of our actions and the consequences of those actions.

  • In 1857 Galen Clark discovered the giant sequoias in Mariposa Groves.  Mr. Clark persuaded President Lincoln to sign the Yosemite Grant protecting the groves as well as Yosemite Valley, and was therefore known for many years as the "Guardian of the Valley".  This was the cabin Mr. Clark built to reside in amongst the breathtaking giant sequoia grove.
